The kid asked the wrong question. Asking politicians "yes" or "no" questions is giving them an easy out. "No, I would not jail them but I am against medical marijuana and have said so for years" doesn't actually address the roots of any issues. The real questions that should be asked are ones that first present facts about marijuana (such as the fact that studies have demonstrated lesser long-term effects than tobacco, and less impairing short term effects than alcohol), and then ask the politician why, if alcohol and tobacco are legal, is marijuana illegal. I have never in my life heard a legitimate defense of the law when the question is phrased in that manner.
