Super High Me Review

I cooked up a little review of Doug Benson's "Super High Me", a documentary filmed in California wherein Doug smokes Marijuana for 30 days straight, to test the affects on his body and mind. Probably also to get super high. Here's a snip, click Read More for the full review:

Super High Me is a documentary by Doug Benson that started as a bit in his stand up comedy routine. He joked that Morgan Spurlock's movie; "Super Size Me" was a tease to stoners, because they watch a movie that is supposed to show the evils of fast food, but all they want is an apple pie and a double cheese burger-- his movie would be called "Super High Me" and he'd get high every day for 30 days. Some would argue that Doug's documentary didn't accomplish much, if anything, but I think it's part of an ongoing dialogue about safe access, the real affects of Marijuana on the body and mind and the hypocrisy of the U.S. Government. It's also a lot of fun to sit back and smoke a bowl to.

The movie begins with Doug walking into a medical Marijuana dispensary in California and checking out all of the different kinds of Marijuana they have for sale. This gives those of you who may of never seen the inside of a pot club a glimpse into the medical realm. They all look mostly the same, from their receptionist areas to the glass display cases and mason jars. Doug is bewildered at the many different kinds of pot you can buy at the cannabis club. This is just a taste of what is to come, the first portion of the movie is Doug's 30 days of sobriety.

During the "sober time", Doug does not smoke any Marijuana, nor does he drink any alcohol, just to be sure. He seems pretty bored throughout this time, most of the content is his stand up routines and Doug wishing he could smoke some pot. They also subject Doug to several tests, one of which you may not of guessed-- yes, that's right, they check his psychic abilities before and after his Marijuana-thon. How do you think he did? Have you ever felt psychic when you were stoned because you remembered where you left your keys? At any rate, the first portion of the documentary is used to kill time and talk about a "rogue cop" in Hollywood who was trying to take the law into his own hands and shut down cannabis clubs, but he can only enforce state law in California. They do bring up the important issue of the federal Government shutting down medical Marijuana clubs, just to flex their muscles. There is a fight to be had here, and if you ask me, the Fed. shouldn't be imposing their will on the people of California. Now that we have the serious part out of the way, let's watch Doug smoke some reefer!

For the second portion of the documentary they start Doug Benson's 30 day smoke-fest, where he smokes pot all day from when he wakes up to when he goes to sleep. He is once again subjected to tests of his IQ, lung capacity and other areas thought to be affected in Marijuana smokers. The doctor they have performing many of the tests admits on camera that health wise, he was not affected at all by the copious dope smoking, which was a bit of a surprise to me. Doug does use a vaporizer for most of his pot intake, which is why he was barely affected. It has been said in some circles that vaporizing your Marijuana removes 99% of the harmful materials.

I think this documentary is a lot of fun, Doug's jokes are mostly funny, the whole idea of a Marijuana documentary like this is enough to make most of us chuckle. Not only do we get to see plenty of medical pot, but there is also a surprising amount of stars who make their way onto the screen. Is it just me, or are most of those actors/comedians from Comedy Central-- I smell a rat... or maybe it's a roach, but I bet the execs at CC had something to do with this movie. More people who don't smoke Marijuana and are poorly educated on it need to see this film, if this guy can smoke pot all day, every day for a month and be given a perfect bill of health from a doctor, how bad can it really be?
Tomatoes were called "death peaches" until the 1820's when Colonel Robert Johnson sat down and ate a basket full of them without any ill affect. Doug is our Robert Johnson, and more people need to be educated instead of scared when it comes to Marijuana.
