Gordon Brown to Reclassify Marijauna in the U.K.

Gordon Brown, the current Prime Minister of the U.K. (still trying to figure out how that happened, is set to ignore advisers and is currently setting in motion to reclassify marijuana in the U.K. to a class B drug.

"Gordon Brown is set to ignore advisers and reclassify cannabis as a Class B drug.

The dramatic U-turn comes just four years after the drug was downgraded to Class C.

It means some of Britain's three million cannabis users would be jailed for FIVE YEARS and suppliers locked up for 14 years.

The change could be brought in from as early as July. "

For those who don’t know, this new classification would put marijuana in the same category as amphetamines. Way to go, Brown!

Westchester teen admits having marijuana, suspended for 9 weeks

This is what honesty can sometimes lead to:
"When a Westchester father found a marijuana cigarette in his son's pocket he went to North Salem High School for help. The 16-year-old boy told his dad he bought the joint in the school library for $20. The school suspended the teen, Pablo Rodriguez, for nine weeks. Many of his neighbors hearing the case believe the suspension is too long and they've begun a petition asking school officials to reconsider."

Fair enough the parent went to the High School for advice and help on the matter. It's a parent's prerogative to be concerned, especially when it concerns drugs. But how would a 9 week suspension help anything?

Denver Officials Ignore Marijuana Votes

Remember when Denver's voters decided back in November to make pot "the city's lowest law-enforcement priority"? The ballot measure joined another, passed in 2005, saying that residents had the right to carry less than an ounce of marijuana, leading to hopes that marijuana arrests were about to become a thing of the past in the Mile High City.

But precisely the opposite has happened. More people are being arrested these days than before the measures passed, according to one disappointed backer who spoke to The Denver Post:

Mason Tvert, a proponent of the marijuana initiatives, said that 1,600 adults faced charges of misdemeanor marijuana possession in 2007, an increase of 18 percent from 2006, an increase of 36 percent from 2005 and an increase of approximately 50 percent from 2004."

ACLU Files Suit Over Pot Raid

Current Argus.com has the scoop on a Carlsbad, NM man who had his medical Marijuana plants and growing equipment seized by the Eddy County police. The ACLU is filing a suit against them, since this man holds a medical Marijuana card. Here's a snip:
The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, which is representing French, said the deputies violated several laws including a constitutional prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures.

In addition to asking the court to bar the state from interfering with his right to use marijuana under the medical marijuana law, French also seeks compensatory damages and attorney fees.
If something like this happened in California, the police would have a lot more to worry about than a law suit. Thanks Argus.
