First and foremost I would like to apologize for the recent downtime that we experienced. Initially we were only meant to be down for about an hour, but user error (on my part) caused us to have to rebuild the database back piece by piece. One lesson I learned is that you should not be high while messing with your production server, even if you think you are only touching the non-production "beta" site.
Well I'll stop beating around the bush. Here we are with the latest and greatest version of Smokedot. Please take notice of the "Forums" link in the navigation block over to your left. We have integrated phpBB with Drupal to allow everyone the opportunity to post and communicate whatever they may. There are a few minor cosmetic changes that will be made in the very near future, but I think you all would rather live with them than have Smokedot down any longer.
Update: 4-14: Yes folks, Cobain thrashed Smokedot while high, it wasn't the first time and it probably won't be the last. We did get flung into this upgrade without much notice, but at least we're running the latest version of Drupal on our production server. I'm still trying to figure out the new UI and the new features, so please bare with me. I'm still looking for newsies and content writers, if you're interested and have a firm grasp of the English language, email me at phusion at smokedot.org and I will get back to you ASAP. We are also looking for loyal forum dorks to help moderate and generate community, so check out the forums! There are still bugs, and like our dopey admin mentioned, some cosmetic changes that need to happen before the site is at 100%. I would like to thank everyone who has been contributing news, linking us and giving feedback, it really helps. We'd be nothing without you. Keep on smokin'. Oh yeah, I just made an introductory post in the Forums, go read mine and make one yourself.

New Features and Upgrades
Submitted by Cobain on Fri, 01/18/2008 - 08:45Hello there guys and gals. I have just completed software upgrades to fix a lot of bugs and security vulnerabilities. As with any upgrade there is also the chance of new bugs popping up. If you see anything that is causing errors or issues please comment on this story and let us know so I can resolve it as soon as possible.
Along with the software upgrade I decided to add private messaging capabilities to the site so that you can message your friends here without the message being public. This feature is accessible by clicking the "Private Messages" link on the navigation bar to your left. If you have any feedback please let me know via comment or private message.
We Need You!
Submitted by Phusion on Thu, 01/17/2008 - 19:35We're looking to build somewhat of a staff here at Smokedot. If you have any web or writing background, please leave a comment or drop me an email. The job doesn't come with a paycheck, but you'll get a chance to work with some interesting people, and be on the cutting edge of Marijuana news on the net.
Light at the end of the tunnel
Submitted by Cobain on Thu, 09/20/2007 - 01:28Another day and more work completed on the new site. We are getting there pretty quick. I have decided that we will be holding weekly meetings to make sure that our progress is steady and stays on track. They will be held every Tuesday @ 8pm CST on Slashnet in #Smokedot, or quite possibly another channel to keep the unrelated chatter to a low.
No more forums
Submitted by Cobain on Sun, 09/16/2007 - 21:27I have decided that going forward that we will no longer have a forums section for Smokedot. Personally I believe that having a separate section for people to post fragments our user base, and causes a lack of attention towards our front page. Of course I will be revisiting this decision later on down the road (more like over the bridge and across the ocean), but for now we need to work on generating content on the main page. Time for me to get to setting up all of the appropriate modules necessary to have the site functioning as we intend it.
What happened?!
Submitted by Cobain on Sun, 09/16/2007 - 20:34All right guys. I have blown away the old 4.7 version of the site for the new 5.2. This does mean that everyone will have to recreate their logins. I apologize, but the old database was filled with spam and random stories about how we are coming back. Going forward when I am upgrading I will migrate the database, but in this instance the effort was not worth the result.
