Canadian Pot Church Busted

Canada.com brings us the news that two men have been convicted of running a church where marijuana was sold as a sacriment. One was sentenced to two years in jail, while the other was sentenced to one year for selling marijuana at the "Church of the Universe".

"In handing down his ruling, the judge called the operation "a marijuana convenience store that operates for profit like a prohibition-era speakeasy, but disguised as a church.""

"Baldasaro and Tucker maintain that God tells them to smoke marijuana and pass joints to their Church of the Universe parishioners."

After watching "Super High Me" I was considering worshiping at a marijuana church. I don't believe this was the same church that was in the movie as both of the defendants have already been tried, convicted and sentenced.

Emery Update: Marc Asks For More Time

Last week it was reported(story) that Marc Emery had agreed to do time in the U.S. for his criminal charges, but Marc has asked for more time to settle out a deal with the U.S. government.
Vancouver So-called prince of pot Marc Emery will be back in court Tuesday asking for more time to work out details of an agreement with U.S. authorities to allow Emery to serve a prison sentence in Canada.

Mr. Emery said last week he'd reached a tentative plea-bargain agreement with the U.S. Justice Department over his Internet sales of marijuana seeds that would have meant he would spent at least five years in prison most of it in Canada.

Marc Emery Agrees To Prison Time In Canada

The Globe And Mail.com posted news that Marc Emery, the self proclaimed prince of pot has agreed to do five years of prison time in Canada. Marc was busted by the DEA for distributing Marijuana seeds in 2005.
Facing a possible life sentence in the United States if extradited and convicted on charges of selling marijuana seeds to online U.S. customers, Marc Emery has agreed to a deal that would see him spend a minimum of five years behind bars in Canada.

Although the plea bargain is not yet "signed, sealed and delivered," Mr. Emery, 50, said that he expects to be heading to prison as early as March.

Should the five-year prison sentence be confirmed, it would be one of the harshest punishments in some years to be served in Canada for a marijuana offence.
Thanks a lot "War on drugs" -- Free Marc!

Canada Leads World In Search For Marijuana

A big thanks to Drew for sending us this story on Canada having the most searches for "Marijuana" on google. Does this surprise anyone?
Google has released a country-by-country breakdown of the most searched for terms on the planet. And you'll never guess what's number one in Canada. While many places list "sex" as the top keyword - including Egypt, India and Turkey - searchers in your home and native land place first on the list for those looking up "marijuana". The U.S. and Australia come in second and third.

And for some reason, Canada is also the leading nation on the planet to look for "Tom Cruise", once again ahead of the Americans and those Down Under. We're in third place when it comes to hunting down information on Britney Spears, beaten by both Mexico and Venezuela. And we get the bronze for other topics, like "Taliban", "car bomb" and - for reasons that may never be clear - "burrito".
Burrito??
