Marijuana is bad for your health.

An article by Alaknanda Devi, an Ayurvedic healter, says that marijuana is addictive harmful to your health. "An important physical impact of Marijuana is sub-clinical hepatitis, a condition in which the liver is chronically congested, resulting in irritability, low-grade depression, slow wound healing, burning sensations, rashes, allergies and yellowish eyes."   Naturally, this article makes stoners defensive of their favorite recreational drug. My family suggests that their liquor use is less harmful than my smoking cannabis, because cannabis disturbs one's psyche. I would like to hear from the toker community. Please, be impartial and open-minded.

My main problem with

My main problem with Ayurvedic medicine is that it calls for an awful lot of goat urine and cow urine.

It that was supposed to be a

It that was supposed to be a serious comment then your main problem is you don't know anything about Ayurveda at all.

well, the degree to which

well, the degree to which marijuana is addictive is up to debate. this Devi lady, and this guy obviously seem to think so, and that gives the anti-marijuana lot fodder for argument. but i know people who would say it's not addictive at all.

It's not an addictive drug as

It's not an addictive drug as such but it is habit forming for a lot of people, however if adults wish to smoke the herb then they should have the right to.

I write from the point of

I write from the point of view of a long term smoker with skin disease ie: dermatitis and I can tell you most definitely

the particular article you quote written by Alaknanda Devi is in my case absolutely 100% correct. After smoking regularly for

approximately 20 years and having the skin disease for approximately the same amount of time I consulted a Chinese Doctor

who put me on liver cleansing herbs after determining I had what TCM refers to as damp-heat and toxicity in my blood/liver.

I didn't tell her I smoked pot but I decided to give up smoking at the same time as taking the herbs she prescribed.

After 3 months not smoking my skin cleared dramatically, and after 5 months of being dope free I started smoking

again...approximately 3 months later my skin condition was back with vengence. I have stopped again as of 1 month ago

and have started on the herbs again.

Ayurvedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine is very very similar in how they look at disease and how they

treat it.

I stumbled across the article you quoted because I was looking for what I considered to be a connection with my skin condition and chronic dope smoking. I was blown away when I read her article because she was saying pretty much what I knew deep down and as far as the Doshas are concerned in Ayurvedic medicine I am Pitta which as she states in her article is the particular personality who seems to enjoy dope smoking the most (for reasons she sets out in her article) and ironically Pitta's are the one's who suffer the most from the bad effects of marijuana smoking.

Consequently no more dope smoking for me. However and this is a point I wish to make strongly....if you want to compare the bad

effects of alcohol to marijuana I will always insist that out of the 2 drugs alcohol is much much worse than marijuana.

In my opinion alcohol is one of the nastiest poisons to health and society as a whole than marijuana will ever be, I have no

doubt about that what so ever. I am guessing your family are coming from the point of view that marijuana causes pyscological

problems where as alcohol doesnt which is not an arguement that stands up to scrutiny because it is well known that

alcohol is a depressant also. The so called connection with Marijuana and mental disease is not one I subscibe to either.

Alcohol is a very nasty and insidious drug people have been lulled into believing is okay for the simple reason it is legal and

socially acceptable where as Marijuana is not.

Not sure why a "healers" word

Not sure why a "healers" word on a medical topic means much.  The scientific community has studied this drug to death specifically for harmful qualities (Feds won't allow it to be studied under experimental designs that could conclude a positive quality).  There are no significant harmful qualities.  None.  Zero.  Zip.  Zilch.  Nada.

Of course, when you take it you should not operate heavy machinery.  You should not do it to excess.  And, if you want to stay healthy, avoid alcohol, a drug that can actually cause liver irritation, cirrohsis, and death.  Long term effects of alcohol on the brain are even worse (see Dick Cheney, for example).

i agree, this person has no research done and no actual scientific basis. I mean you honestly posted an article from this person!? That's absurd,

Jeez I was under the impression people who smoke dope are a bit more open minded and non-judgemental.

You posted a photo of this woman, please correct me if I'm wrong, for the purpose of ridiculing and judging her level of intelligence and expertise on how she looks.

Lack of 'scientific evidence'  is one of the most annoying terms in the world because it infers that unless it can be proven by men/women in white suits in sterile laboratorys then it counts for nothing which is simply crap.
