Mondovi woman leads fight for medical marijuana

The Leader-Telegram Online has a story about Jacki Rickert of Mondovi, WI and her fight to get medical Marijuana available in her state. Here's a clip from the article:

As far back as high school, Rickert said, she has been suffering the debilitating effects of the genetic disorder Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Both are chronic and incurable.

"(Doctors) don't know where one ends and the other beings," she said.

The ailments have left her in severe pain and confined to a wheelchair, and often to her modest, single-story home. Although she takes morphine for her pain, Rickert said marijuana saved her life.
This is the case for many suffering people in states without a medical marijuana program. As far as the government is concerned, Marijuana has no medicinal effects, yet it's saving this woman's life. Do we have any readers in WI?

I too have Ehlers-Danlos

I too have Ehlers-Danlos and use medical marijuana. I'd be in a box if it were not for medical marijuana, as most of the medications I've tried have awful side effects; they just don't work; or they stop working.

Ehlers-Danlos is a genetic disorder of the collagen. Our bodies are 80 percent collagen, which acts as a glue and is found in our tendons, cartilage, ligaments, muscle, eyes, organs, etc...

My form of Ehlers-Danlos is hypermobility, most likely. I have excruciating dislocations, subloxations, and herniations of all the joints in my body, almost daily, because my joints don't have the glue to hold them together. I also get hernias very easily and have needed sutures on 20 different occasions, because my skin splits like a tomato. I have to get tested for the deadly vascular form of EDS (putting the test off), which has an avg life expectancy of 48 (50% drop before they are 40), due to spontaneous organ rupture (neat "experience" to look forward to).

Very rough disease and so few docs care to deal with rare diseases. Sensitivity to medications, like NSAIDS, is very common in Ehlers-Danlos, due to fragility of the stomach lining.

Please make cannabis an option for our sick. People with chronic and at times fatal diseases, like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, need all the options to treat a lifetime of excruciating symptoms. Thanks for this article.

Keep up the good fight Jackie, and don't stay too loose. ha ha

I am a Canadian medical

I am a Canadian medical marijuana patient with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. I have had my life change because I was granted acess to medical marijuana. I begame working again and am know a vp of sales for a Brokerage company. I am a success, and it wouldn't have been possible, if I hadn't been given access to my meds. I tried everything, and I get relieve with no real side effects. At least nothing that I can attest to.

Wishing Jacki success in her battle. The truth has to win in the end. It is obvious, and once people know all the fact, the US will have to follow, even if it would be nice for the US to lead.

This is a link to a very interesting interview with Dr. Tashkin who is a leading researcher in Marjuana as medicine. He did a 10 year study that has shown 0 link between marijuana and lung cancer or any other pulmonary function problems that are associated with Tobbaco smoke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJmQ16cGBHU

He also states that there is evidence that shows that there is a possibility that it has preventative effects against cancer. He says that they believe that Marijuana(when smoked) kills aging cells that cause cancer. (this is an assumption, but evidence does point to this). Very interesting, and worth the education.

Good Luck Jacki. Wishing you years of relieve from your pain.

A Canadian who wishes for access for all patients who need it!

I'd just like to thank the

I'd just like to thank the two commentors for their feedback on this story. There really are a lot of sick people out there who are being treated like criminals or being denied the only thing that _really_ helps.

uh, that woman didn't even

uh, that woman didn't even speak correctly. "beings" perhaps she meant begins...maybe clear minded medical stoners should be the ones on the podium
